Glades Central's William Likely named Gatorade POY
By Lucas O'Neill
Glades Central (Belle Glade) has produced no shortage of football stars over the years — Fred Taylor and Santonio Holmes to name just two — and the Raiders' latest standout shines both on and off the field. William Likely, GC's do-everything junior, has compiled more than 1,600 all-purpose yards in leading the Raiders to a 12-0 record and a berth in the Class 5A regional finals against Miami Norland this Friday. But he also carries a 3.86 GPA and volunteers at a local food pantry, among other public service activities.
For his excellence in athletics, academics and character, Likely has been named Florida's Gatorade Player of the Year for 2011-12. Past winners of the award from the Sunshine State include Emmitt Smith, Anquan Boldin and Willis McGahee. To read more about Likely and his selection, click here.
