It’s been a strange week at No. 45 Holy Spirit (Absecon, N.J.) with the Spartans being assessed a forfeit loss after their first game due to the use of an ineligible player.
One constant for Holy Spirit not only early this season but last year as well has been the power running of 6-foot-1, 215-pound running Donta Pollock.
As a junior, Pollock piled up 1,878 yards and scored 178 points to lead Holy Spirit to a 12-0 record plus the Non-Public Group III state championship. Forfeit or no forfeit, he has still picked up right where he left off.
Pollock led the Spartans to a 42-14 victory last weekend over Absegami (Galloway, N.J.) with 32 carries for 235 yards and three touchdowns.
In the 41-16 season-opening victory against Oak Crest (Mays Landing, N.J.), which was the game later switched to a forfeit loss, Pollock dominated with 32 carries for 201 yards and two touchdowns.
Pollock will be looking for his third straight 200-yard outing in this week’s game at Bridgeton (Bridgeton, N.J.).
