Friday football pick 'em with Joshua Holsey and Geno Smith

10/14/2011

Joshua Holsey continues to be a beast with his picks, following a 5-0 week by hitting on four out of five games last round. With the strong effort, his lead swells to 5 points. Good showing for Geno Smith, who was the only one to correctly pick Valdosta to defeat Lowndes. The win catapulted him to a 4-1 showing. Then there's yours truly. Tough week for me as I went 2-3 to fall into a second-place tie with Geno. Here's what the standings currently look like:

Now onto this week's games and picks.

Lowndes (5-2) at Colquitt County (6-1)

No. 1 Grayson (6-0) at Parkview (4-2)

Flowery Branch (6-0) at Heritage-Conyers (7-0)

Norcross (5-1) at Peachtree Ridge (5-1)

Northside-Warner Robins (6-0) at Thomas County Central (5-1)

Dave's picks:

Lowndes, 21-14 — Lowndes won’t lose back-to-back games. Look for the Vikes to pound the rock on the ground with senior Mike Moore and receive a bounce-back effort from the defense.

Grayson, 38-14 — Both teams enter this game undefeated in Region 8-AAAAA play, only Grayson will be able to say that after.

Flowery Branch, 42-14 — I don’t see how Conyers can stop a Flowery Branch offense that is topping the 50-point mark every week. Give me the Pats and QB Kanler Coker (5 TDs last week).

Norcross, 28-21 — The Blue Devils will want to make a strong statement in this one after squandering a 22-point lead in last week’s loss to North Gwinnett. Ridge should expect to see a lot of the Joseph Wilber-to-Jason Croom connection.

Northside, 35-21 — This Warner Robins' defense is scary good, and QB Jack Montgomery has kept the chains moving with more than 800 passing yards and seven scores. That combo sounds like a recipe for success.

Joshua's picks:

Lowndes, 21-10
— Lowndes ground game is too good. I heard their RB (Moore) is pretty good.

Grayson, 28-10 — I saw them play recently and the 2013 kid (Robert Nkemdiche) who was on your cover is really good. They went off on the other team and that kid was a beast.

Heritage, 10-3 — I have a gut feeling this will be an upset.

Peachtree Ridge, 21-14 — This should be a good game but I've got Parkview.

Northside, 17-7 — I don't know, I just have a good feeling Northside will win.

Geno's picks:

Flowery Branch, 42-21 — Oklahoma State commit C.J. Curry is a good friend of mine and he'll have a big game.

Grayson, 35-14 — They have a pretty good junior (Nkemdiche). With him, their defense will be able to stop Parkview.

Colquitt County, 14-10 — They have a good defensive game. They're big boys out there.

Norcross, 28-17 — Jason Croom is going to have a big game.

Thomas County, 28-21 — That's a good one. It will be an awesome, hard-fought game.
