Jim Valvano's illustrious life came to an end before she was even born, yet his message lives on in 16-year-old Dani Urman.
Dani, who was diagnosed in January of 2010 with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer that is most common in teens, embodies the late coach's message: Don't ever give up.
Through difficult chemotherapy treatments -- “I threw up four or five times every time I stood up,” she says -- and a surgery that removed not only her tumor, but also her whole knee and part of her femur, Dani never lost her resolve to return to the golf course.
Last season, she helped lead Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village, Colo.) to a state championship.
Today, ESPN kicks off Jimmy V Week.
