High-SchoolGirl: Lienz

Mikaela Shiffrin closed out 2011 in style.

The 16-year-old from Vail, Colo., became the youngest female racer on a World Cup slalom podium in 33 years when she finished third in Lienz, Austria.

Shiffrin finished 1.30 seconds behind Marlies Schild of Austria. Shiffrin had the fastest time in the final run to move up from 12th to third.

"I have been working so hard for this moment," Shiffrin said. "Schild, Zettel, Hosp, Vonn; I have been watching all these top girls for the past 10 years. And now I am here myself, it really feels crazy."
