It’s nearly 3,000 miles from Honolulu to Phoenix. It’s a six hour flight – if you’re lucky and have no layovers – and a three-hour time difference. But Leahi Premier couldn’t be happier to make the trip.

The Hawaiian State Cup champs come over to the mainland three times each year to play in tournaments, according to coach Joelle Sugai. The team competed in the Players Showcase in Las Vegas in March, and will travel to Surf Cup later this summer in San Diego. In between, they look to make waves at next week’s US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships.

ESPNHS takes a look back at the top storylines from last week, which include an odd forfeit in Virginia and the first Sunshine State members in the ECNL.

5. Tight At The Top: In one of the more surprising results last week, POWERADE FAB 50 Winter No. 36 Flower Mound (Texas) dealt No. 5 Plano West (Plano, Texas) a 2-0 defeat last week. The result sets up an interesting final day of district action Tuesday as three teams – Flower Mound, Marcus (Flower Mound, Texas) and Plano West – remain in the hunt for first place. Flower Mound leads with 22 points, followed by Marcus at 21 and Plano West at 20. None of the top three go head-to-head Tuesday, meaning there will be a lot of scoreboard watching to see who emerges as the District 8-5A champion.
