BOCA RATON, Fla. – The annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Girls Thanksgiving Interregional completed play Friday with final-round matches for the 1996 and 1997 age groups.
Zoe Higgins' 65th goal lifted Region IV (West) to a 1-0 victory over Region II (Midwest) to complete a perfect run through the 1996 age group. Region IV also posted the best record among the 1997 age group teams, going 2-0-1 following a 3-2 win over Region II on Friday.

Following two rounds of play, all four 1995 age group teams are 1-1. Meanwhile, Region I (East) and Region III (South) surged to the top of the standings following Tuesday wins.

Sheldon Shealer/ESPNHSA small group of students made the trip to cheer on Villa Joseph Marie in the state semifinals.The night before, Central Valley was humbled 5-1 in a Pennsylvania Class AA state semifinal match. It wasn’t the margin of defeat that was the story. After all, longshot Central Valley lost to a Villa Joseph Marie (Holland, Pa.) team generally regarded as one of the strongest in the nation.
The story here was travel.
