BOCA RATON, Fla. – The annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Girls Thanksgiving Interregional completed play Friday with final-round matches for the 1996 and 1997 age groups.

Zoe Higgins' 65th goal lifted Region IV (West) to a 1-0 victory over Region II (Midwest) to complete a perfect run through the 1996 age group. Region IV also posted the best record among the 1997 age group teams, going 2-0-1 following a 3-2 win over Region II on Friday.

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Girls Thanksgiving Interregional continued play Tuesday with second-round matches for the 1994 and 1995 age groups.

Following two rounds of play, all four 1995 age group teams are 1-1. Meanwhile, Region I (East) and Region III (South) surged to the top of the standings following Tuesday wins.

Region II (Midwest) and IV (West) won the 1996 matches while Region III (South) and Region IV won the 1997 contests.

Pa. teams go the distance for playoffs

It was 7:35 a.m. Wednesday morning and members of the Central Valley (Monaca, Pa.) girls’ soccer team trickled into class – they were visibly tired.

The night before, Central Valley was humbled 5-1 in a Pennsylvania Class AA state semifinal match. It wasn’t the margin of defeat that was the story. After all, longshot Central Valley lost to a Villa Joseph Marie (Holland, Pa.) team generally regarded as one of the strongest in the nation.

The story here was travel.

Even though they are defending ECNL Flight B National Champions, Carmel United enters the season with something to prove.
