PDA Showcase: Real So Cal stuns Eclipse

ZAREPHATH, N.J. – The match was played under a constant threat of rain, but as far as top-ranked Eclipse Select Under-17s were concerned, it felt as if they had been struck by lightning a second time.

For the second time in 11 months, Real So Cal zapped Eclipse Select, this time rallying for a 3-2 victory to highlight Saturday’s Elite Clubs National League action at the PDA Showcase. Last year’s Real So Cal victory was a bit more monumental, beating then top-seeded Eclipse Select in the national quarterfinals.

More than 200 teams from across the country head to Zarephath, N.J., this weekend for the annual PDA Showcase, one of the nation’s most esteemed club soccer events. In recent years, the Showcase has taken on new meaning, serving as the final stop for many ECNL teams before June’s playoffs. Forty-four ECNL clubs will send a total of 110 teams to this year’s PDA Showcase and the results will have major implications on which teams makes the playoffs in their respective age groups.

Kristin Sullivan, a Class of 2013 defender from Marlton, N.J., has verbally committed to Drexel, ESPNHS has learned. Sullivan plays club soccer for PDA South and high school ball for Cherokee (Marlton, N.J.).

She becomes the first confirmed commit to Drexel for the Class of 2013.

According to the NCAA, less than six percent of all high school senior soccer players will go on to play at the NCAA Division I, II or III level. The recruiting process can be complicated, daunting and downright confusing for many athletes seeking one of these coveted soccer scholarships.

ESPNHS is turning to these high school athletes for helpful advice in dealing with the recruiting process.

Each Wednesday in the month of April, ESPNHS will feature tips from elite high school soccer players who have verbally committed to NCAA Division I programs. Each of these players is featured on our Class of 2013 Verbal Commitments List, and each has something unique to offer for other players seeking scholarships.

Legends FCUS Youth SoccerLegends FC (Calif.) went 6-0-1 through National League Under-15 play to secure a spot in this summer's US Youth Soccer National Championships.
Legends FC (Calif.) and its partner club Legends Breakaway (Calif.) combined to win four US Youth Soccer National League titles over the weekend in Las Vegas, securing national championship berths for the California power this summer.

Before Sunday’s strong finish, only the Dallas Texans had ever won more than one National League title in a single year -- accomplishing the feat three times:

2010-11: Dallas Texans won U16 Girls and U17 Boys division titles.
2008-09: Dallas Texans won U16 Girls, U17 Girls and U16 Boys titles.
2007-08: Dallas Texans won U15 Girls and U16 Boys titles.

ESPNHS Fall All-America girls' soccer list

The fall high school soccer season annually showcases the most, and usually the best, college-bound talent during the school year.

Of the 36 members of the ESPNHS Fall All-America teams, 15 either are or have been part of the U.S. Soccer National Team player pool in the past year. The All-America teams feature 25 seniors, eight juniors and three sophomores -- which represents a higher than usual number of underclass players. While all 25 seniors have signed with NCAA Division I programs, the only uncommitted junior in the group is a youth national team member.
