ECNL Watch: A Carolina clash in U17s
By Chris Ackels
This weekend’s Elite Clubs National League slate includes clubs from six different conferences, and features a number of rivalry matchups, including an Atlanta meeting between Condorde Fire and Atlanta Fire, a New York matchup between Albertson and East Meadow, and a Bean Town showdown between FC Stars of Mass and Scorpions. ESPNHS breaks down the ECNL Under-17 Games to Watch for this weekend.
Charlotte SA vs. Carolina Elite SA (4 p.m. Sunday in North Carolina)
The first of two meetings between these Carolina squads could have a major impact on the Southeast Conference standings. The two teams sit just one point apart coming into the weekend, and this game will decide who jumps in front of the other. Forward Meaghan Carrigan has scored in every Carolina Elite victory so far this season; getting her on the board will be important for CESA. Charlotte has a number of weapons it can use to combat her, including Ashley Finke and Auburn Mercer.
TSC Hurricanes vs. D’Feeters (1 p.m. Sunday in Oklahoma)
The first time these teams met, Elizabeth Keester scored twice for TSC Hurricanes in a 3-2 win in Dallas. Keester and fellow forward Kristen Killion have made defenses look silly all season, scoring 28 goals between them in 14 games. This weekend in Oklahoma, D’Feeters looks to shut down the dynamic duo and inch closer in the Texas Conference. Defense has been the key for D’Feeters this season. In its six victories, the team has allowed just one goal total. In its six losses, the team has allowed 15.
KCFC vs. Minnesota Thunder (9 a.m. Sunday in Missouri)
These teams met in mid-November, and Joelle Johnson scored the game’s only goal in a 1-0 victory for KCFC. Johnson and Addison Steiner account for most of KCFC’s offense, and the team enters the weekend on a five-game win streak. When the teams met over the summer, Minnesota Thunder controlled the game and settled for a 1-1 tie. This weekend’s matchup could go either way.
