Autumn Berry, a Class of 2013 midfielder and defender form Dumfries, Va., has verbally committed to Akron, her family has confirmed to ESPNHS.

Berry plays club soccer for VSA Heat. She plays high school soccer at Forest Park (Woodbridge, Va.).

Her versatility is shown in her regular starts at both midfielder and defender, and made her a prime recruiting target. The left-footed Berry was the district leader in assists for Forest Park, and that resourcefulness has helped her earn a spot on the Super Y ODP National Camp three times in her career.

Other Schools Considered: UNC Charlotte, Missouri, Rice, Penn State, South Carolina, Seton Hall, Princeton, Northeastern

Why Akron?: "Whenever stepping on a campus, I look for this 'belonging'-type feeling I had always been told to look for by others who had already gone through the process. I had never really felt it until I visited Akron University. Meeting the players on the team, their welcoming personalities and warmth towards me made me feel at ease and gave me that 'home away from home' feeling in an unfamiliar state. Chatting with Coach Chris Pfau in person for the first time was great. It was easy for me to ask him questions and address what I was looking for in a college soccer program as well as a school. I feel that his intellect, experience and plan for me as a player will definetly develop me in to that next level type of player I strive to be throughout college and hopefully beyond. The campus was absolutely gorgeous and the academics offered there are extraordinary! The atmosphere about soccer here however, might be one of the most exciting aspects. The excitement and love for the game with the Akron Women's soccer team definitely drew me to this school when I was coming to the conclusion of my selection process.

What did you learn about the recruiting process?: "The planning ahead and thoroughness of it all. You really have to do your research and seriously consider what you are looking for in a school and soccer program. You have to think about what you want to accomplish those four years and what school will help you achieve those goals. And you can't ever forget to be patient and make your choice when you're ready."
