Warren Central started the season at No. 1 in the ESPNHS Indiana rankings, and the Warriors played like the No. 1 team in their opening game, routing Merrillville, 64-13. Senior RB Deionte Buckley (181 rushing yards, four TDs) and senior WR Kevin Davis (188 receiving yards, three TDs) did most of the damage for Warren Central.

The top three teams are listed below, with full rankings after the jump.

There were two big upsets on opening weekend, as Pike dropped a 21-14 decision to North Central, and Cathedral lost an overtime contest to Ben Davis. Cathedral, which will play Warren Central in a nationally-televised game on ESPN this weekend, had a 4th-and-goal from the 1-yard line, but Irish RB Gino Gillum was stopped as Ben Davis held on to beat Cathedral, 23-20.

Pike had been No. 3 in the preseason rankings, but dropped to No. 10 with the loss. Cathedral slipped from No. 5 to No. 8.
