ESPNHS Lacrosse: Must See

The third annual Warrior 40 competition is Aug. 13-15 in Commerce City, Colo. The three-day event hosts the nation's best high school boys lacrosse players.

Each week until the final roster is announced, ESPNHS will profile three to four athletes from our Warrior 40 Tracker.

Jordan Evans, Jr., Jamesville-DeWitt (Dewitt, N.Y.), attackman
Evans is ranked No. 12 in the ESPNHS Top 50 Juniors list, and it's easy to see why. He's one of the most productive offensive players in the nation, and he could single-handedly fill a highlight reel with some of his goals. In last year's Class B state championship game, he scored a goal with 3.6 seconds left in overtime to give Jamesville-DeWitt an 8-7 win. On May 3 of this season, he notched a hat trick in just 48 seconds against Fulton (N.Y.), showing the kind of explosive firepower he could bring to the Warrior 40 game. Evans has committed to Syracuse.

Jack Lambert, Jr., John Jay (Cross River, N.Y.), defenseman
Lambert doesn't mind doing the dirty work. The athletic defenseman will occasionally join the offense, and he's scored some big goals this season, but his main responsibility is shutting down the opponents' top scoring option. Lambert is strong enough to win physical battles, but he's also agile enough to get the ball out in transition. He'll play at North Carolina in 2014.

Ben Pridemore, Jr., Boys' Latin (Baltimore), midfield
Boys' Latin finished as Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association semifinalists this season, but Pridemore is one of the Lakers' underclassmen that gives the team hope for next year. Ranked No. 43 in the ESPNHS Top 50 Juniors list, his scoring ability should make the Lakers a contender in 2013.

To submit a player for consideration fill out our submission form here. Please be sure to provide the player’s entire week's worth of performances. Athletes can earn Player of the Week honors just once during the 2012 regular season.

The following players are for the week of May 12 through 19.

East

Timmy Farrell, Jr., Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.), goalie
In the Purple Eagles’ 10-3 win over rival DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), Farrell and his defense frustrated the Stags' offense all night. In the win, Farrell collected eight saves to help the Eagles collect their third-straight Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title and finish the season with a convincing win. Farrell was a rock between the pipes for the Eagles, helping them achieve a successful 20-win season and a Top 5 ranking in the POWERADE FAB 50.

Southeast

Patrick DiMento, Memphis University School (Memphis, Tenn.), attack
When the game was on the line, DiMento became the hero by scoring the game-winning goal with 11 seconds left in the Tennessee state championship on May 19. After trailing 11-8 with three minutes left, the Owls surged to a remarkable recovery to win 12-11 against Brentwood (Tenn.) behind DiMento’s four goals, including the eventual game winner.

West

Colin MacIlvennie, Soph., Eastside Catholic (Sammamish, Wash.), midfield
The future Maryland Terrapin had a huge game, collecting six points with four goals and two assists in a 12-5 quarterfinal win over Lake Tapps on May 18. Recently named First Team All-State by the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association, MacIlvennie was unstoppable at midfield by helping Eastside Catholic advance to the Division I Washington state semifinals.

Midwest

Chris Beith, Sr., Dublin Jerome (Dublin, Ohio), attack
As a veteran attackman, Beith did what he does best in Dublin Jerome’s 10-9 victory over rival Upper Arlington (Columbus, Ohio) on May 12. Beith scored four goals in the win helping keep Dublin Jerome undefeated on the season. With the state playoffs approaching the High Point recruit will look to repeat his recent success and help Dublin get another state title.

On May 16 against POWERADE FAB 50 No. 7 Georgetown Visitation in the ISL championship, Reed totaled seven points on six goals and one assist. Two days later in the VISAA semifinal against Bishop O’Connell (Alexandria, Va.) the North Carolina commit added a goal in a 17-6 victory. Midwest

Caroline Flowers, Sr., Kentucky Country Day (Louisville, Ky.), midfield

Flowers scored two goals in the first six minutes to help the Lady Bearcats jump out to an early lead. The senior scored four goals in the first half to give her team a 7-3 lead. The championship game was the seventh appearance in the title game for KCD and the program’s third championship.

Southeast

Maggie Auslander, Jr., Green Hope (Cary, N.C.)
Auslander was named the MVP of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship game after scoring five goals and adding one assist in a 17-6 victory over Charlotte Catholic on May 19. The No. 30 player in the ESPN Top 50 helped the Falcons to their first state sanctioned state championship and its first undefeated season. The North Carolina commit finished the season with 108 points on 73 goals and 35 assists.

West

Erin Todd, Sr., Air Academy (USAF, Colo.), attack
Air Academy was tied with Kent Denver 4-4 at halftime of the state semifinal when Todd went to work. The senior scored six of her seven goals in the second half to lead The Kadets to a 13-12 win over Kent Denver on May 19. Todd scored her seventh goal of the game with 4:25 remaining and it was that goal, the team’s 13, that proved to be the game winner. Todd has 73 goals and 41 assists through 20 games this season. The Kadets' win propels them to the Colorado state championship game where they will meet defending champion Cherry Creek on May 23.

Boys' Region Players of the Week

To submit a player for consideration, fill out our submission form here. Please be sure to provide the player’s entire week's worth of performances. Athletes can earn Player of the Week honors just once during the 2012 regular season.

The following players are for the week of May 6 through 11.

East

Teddy Glesener, Jr., West Genesee (Camillus, N.Y.), midfield
The young midfielder was unstoppable, handing Liverpool its first loss of the season in West Genesee's 14-4 victory on May 10. Glesener put on quite the performance with five goals and two assists in the dominating win. Glesener is making a case to be called one of the best midfielders in upstate New York.

Southeast

Kyle Fairchild, Sr., Durham Academy (Durham, N.C.), attack
In the Cavaliers' 17-3 win over Cary Academy (Cary, N.C.), Fairchild was unstoppable. The senior attackman notched eight goals in the win and put in one of the best performances in the state this season. With a tough path to the state championship, the Cavaliers are hoping for a similar performance in the future.

West

Michael Ortlieb, Sr., Corona Del Mar (Newport Beach, Calif.), goalie
The Sea Kings finished the season with an unblemished record after defeating Palos Verdes 7-6 for the CIF Southern Section championship on May 12. Behind their star goalie who recorded 10 saves, the Sea Kings were the first team in the CIF era to go undefeated capturing their first ever title along the way. Yet it was Ortlieb who literally saved the day with no time remaining on Maryland-bound midfielder Zack Fixen’s shot to seal the championship.

Midwest

Thomas Gilligan, Sr., Benilde-St. Margaret (St. Louis Park, Minn.), goalie
All season Gilligan has been playing spectacular, but recently he has been a brick wall in net. Last week against conference rival Totino Grace (Fridley, Minn.) he collected 15 saves in a 13-3 victory. Just a few days earlier he saved 15 shots against Eden Prairie on May 5. If the senior goalie continues his stellar play Benilde-St. Margaret could once again could be hoisting the state championship trophy.
