Shoreham (N.Y.) junior chooses Northwestern

ESPNHSMeredith Bushell from Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.)Meredith Bushell, a junior from Shoreham-Wading River (Shoreham, N.Y.), has given a verbal commitment to play women’s lacrosse for Northwestern. ESPNHS: What other school’s did you consider?
Meredith Bushell: “UPenn, Ohio State, Rutgers, UMass, Stony Brook and Johns Hopkins.”
ESPNHS: What made Northwestern such an attractive choice?
MB: “Northwestern offers a great education and the opportunity to compete at a high level.”
ESPNHS: What surprised you about the recruiting process?
MB: “September 1 was exciting! It was like Christmas Morning.”
ESPNHS: What was the most important question you asked college coaches during the process?
MB: “I found all the college coaches provided me with great information to make an informed decision, they were thoughtful and understanding. I asked them where I stood on the recruiting order.”
ESPNHS: What one piece of advice would you give to other players who are just starting on the recruiting process?
MB: “Think about what type of school you would be most comfortable –big, small, city or country setting. Look at some informally in your sophomore year, go see a game or attend a camp to see if you like the campus.
ESPNHS: Is there anything about the recruiting process that you think could change that would have made it easier or less stressful for you?
MB: “For all the schools I visited and spoke to, the coaches were very helpful and worked hard to make sure it wasn’t a stressful experience.”
