Hauppauge (Hauppauge, N.Y.) junior, Jessica Volpe, has given her verbal commitment to play women’s lacrosse for Stony Brook.

Volpe, who transferred to Hauppauge from Rocky Point (Rocky Point, N.Y.) for her junior year, plays both midfield and defense.

The junior represented Long Island at the Under Armour Underclassmen games over the summer.

The junior gave her verbal commitment to the Seawolves on Sept. 29, 2011.

ESPN High School: What other school’s did you consider?

Jessica Volpe: “I also considered Rutgers, Hopkins, Villanova and Boston University.”

EHS: What made Stony Brook such an attractive choice?

JV: “I felt as if Stony Brook was a perfect fit academically and athletically for me. I believe that in the near future SBU will be a top 10 program.”

EHS: What surprised you about the recruiting process?

JV: “I did not think that the recruiting process was going to begin so early in my high school career. After September 1 things started becoming very overwhelming.”

EHS: What was the most important question you asked college coaches during the process?

JV: “The most important question I asked college coaches during the process would be "How does my lacrosse skills fit with your program?" I also questioned if the schools I was interested in had a Physical Therapy major.”

EHS: What one piece of advice would you give to other players who are just starting on the recruiting process?

JV: “If I had to give any advice to lacrosse players who are just starting the recruiting process I would say to definitely attend showcases where a large number of college coaches will be at, as well as once you narrow down to the schools you are interested in, attend those college camps.”

EHS: Is there anything about the recruiting process that you think could change that would have made it easier or less stressful for you?

JV: “The ability to talk to coaches prior to September 1 of junior year would help make the recruiting process less stressful and much easier for me.”
