St. Augustine Prep (Richland, N.J.) junior Nate Gorman has given a verbal commitment to play men’s lacrosse for Villanova.

The 6-foot, 190-pound defender was a member of the New Jersey team at the Under Armour Underclassmen games and also earned All-Star honors at the King of the Hill and Top 205 events.

ESPN High School: What other school’s did you consider?

Nate Gorman: “I also considered the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Delaware.”

EHS: What made Villanova such an attractive choice?

NG: Villanova was such an attractive choice not only because of its lacrosse program, but also because of its prestigious academic background. Also, its location played a huge role in my decision. At Villanova, I am only a car ride away from home.”

EHS: What surprised you about the recruiting process?

NG: “I was surprised about how quickly the process excelled this summer. I received a few questionnaires sophomore year and then in July I started visiting and schools and finding which one was best for me.”

EHS: What was the most important question you asked college coaches during the process?

NG: “The most important questioned I asked college coaches during the process was what the balance between athletics and academics was.”

EHS: What one piece of advice would you give to other players who are just starting on the recruiting process?

NG: “Find a school that fits both your athletic and academic needs. Also, before making your decision, make sure you visit the school.”

EHS: Is there anything about the recruiting process that you think could change that would have made it easier or less stressful for you?

NG: “If I could change one thing, it would be the commitments of players before their junior year. The recruiting process starts too early.”
