Around The Crease

By Tom Peace & Mike Loveday

Lacrosse
Around the Crease is a new weekly series from ESPNHS.
ESPNHS launches a new weekly feature, Around the Crease, in which we take a look at players, teams and high school lacrosse news from around the country.

Look Who’s Playing

If Boys’ Latin (Baltimore, Md.) sophomore Shack Stanwick repeats his freshman season then he will be a hot commodity for the Lakers in 2012 and beyond.

Stanwick was the team’s second leading scorer in 2011 -- totaling 58 points on 30 assists and 28 goals.

The sophomore raked in the accolades in 2011: First Team Baltimore Messenger (2011), Second Team Towson Times (2011), Maryland Free State Team (2011), and Jake Reed Blue Chip (2011). Stanwick also was the only 2014 graduate to be named to the Baltimore underclass team at the Under Armour games.

The Stanwick name will be familiar to those in Maryland and beyond as it has become synonymous with lacrosse success.

Steele Stanwick helped lead Virginia to the 2011 National Title and earned the prestigious Tewaaraton Trophy, which is awarded to the lacrosse college lacrosse Player of the Year.

Covie Stanwick was a standout for Notre Dame Prep (Baltimore, Md.) last season and was the ESPNHS No. 1 senior in girls lacrosse. Wells Stanwick was the No. 5 senior for the boys last season and was a senior on Boys’ Latin. Covie will play at Boston College this fall while Wells is headed to Johns Hopkins.

Shack appears primed to continue the family legacy and possibly help Boys’ Latin to challenge for a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association championship.
