Around The Crease: Nov. 1, 2011
By Mike Loveday
Maggie Bill from St. Anthony's (South Huntington, N.Y.) at the 2011 Under Armour Underclassmen games.
ESPNHS continues its weekly feature, Around the Crease, which takes a look at players, teams and high school lacrosse news from around the country.
Look Who’s Playing
Maggie Bill from St. Anthony’s (South Huntington, N.Y.) high school career might have got off to a rocky start, but the junior had a stellar sophomore season and gave a verbal commitment in July to play both lacrosse and soccer for North Carolina.
Bill started as a freshman for the Friars, but suffered an ACL injury. Last season, as a sophomore and coming back from that injury last year, Bill earned ESPNHS All-American honors and was selected by coaches as midfielder of year at St. Anthony’s.
“She’s an incredible athlete. Speed-wise, footwork-wise she can keep up with anyone. As a freshman she didn’t’ look like a freshman player -- she came in and set the tone,” St. Anthony’s head coach Corinne Lomangino said. “I’ve never seen another midfielder play better midfield defense then Maggie does. She can come in and shut down anybody. She has the ability to slow kids down.”
