Around the Crease: Feb. 9, 2011
By Mike Loveday
ESPNHS continues its weekly feature, Around the Crease, which takes a look at players, teams and high school lacrosse news from around the country.
News And Notes
It is an exciting week for the growth of lacrosse. Not only is Florida adding 30-35 new teams that will begin play in less then two weeks, but districts in Pennsylvania and Illinois have approved the formation of new programs this week.
In both instances the programs were approved under the condition that they cost the school districts no money.
Our 2012 Region Previews have begun, starting with a look at the Southeast.
We have the full schedule posted on our Preview Central page here, but readers can expect a new region every Tuesday (girls) and Wednesday (boys).
Any coach who wants to get their team included please fill out this form at least one week before the region launches.
What You Might Have Missed
Top Story: It would appear the excitement for the 2012 season is building. Last week our top story was an item that has not been updated since mid-June -- the boys’ POWERADE FAB 50 ESPNHS Team Rankings, in which Haverford School (Haverford, Pa.) won the 2011 National Championship.
Top Commitments: Our top commitment story last week was not a singular item. Last week we published an update to the players in the class of 2014 who have confirmed their commitments to ESPNHS. Overall, 12 boys and two girls have already given their verbal pledge to various Division I programs.
For the past few months, ESPNHS has held off posting commitments for the class of 2014, instead opting to wait until closer to the start of the high school season. Now that we have started our 2012 Region Previews and the season is two weeks from starting, we will begin to publish all 2014 commitments as we receive them.
