Samantha Burgess, Jr., McDonogh (Owings Mills, Md.), midfield Burgess score nine goals in McDonogh’s 15-5 win over then No. 10 Vero Beach (Fla.). Burgess helped the Eagles scored seven-straight goals to start the second half and eventually earn the running clock with a 14-4 lead with 8:42 left in the game. The win snapped Vero Beach’s 69-game winning streak and extended McDonogh’s winning streak to 52 games, which is now the longest active streak in the nation.
Casey McCarthy, Sr., Cy-Fair (Cypress, Texas), midfield McCarthy was instrumental in come-from-behind victory against Episcopal School (Dallas) on March 24. McCarthy scored four goals and had two assists in a 13-7 victory. Earlier in the week against St. Agnes (Houston, Texas), McCarthy scored six goals and had one assist. The senior is a third-year captain and committed to Wagner College.
Caroline Heys, Jr., Westminster (Atlanta), attack Heys scored 17 goals and six assists in three games during the annual Dogwood Girls Lacrosse Classic in Atlanta, Ga. The junior had seven goals and three assists in the opener, a 14-6 win over Ravenwood (Brentwood, Tenn.). She had four goals and two assists in the championship game against Episcopal (Houston). For her efforts, she was named Co-MVP of the tournament.
Olivia Smith, Sr., Bainbridge Island (Wash.), midfield In a meeting of defending state champions, Smith scored six goals and added one assist to help Bainbridge Island defeat Bellevue East 16-6. Bainbridge Island is the defending Division I champion and Bellevue East is the defending Division II champion. Bainbridge evened its record at 1-1-1 with the victory.
