FAB 50 Insider: No. 3 Calvert Hall loses
By Mike Loveday
ESPNHS takes a look at big game results from the POWERADE FAB 50 each week. Updated daily as necessary, we will track FAB 50 upsets, outstanding performances and news that is expected to impact the rankings.
In addition to the FAB 50, ESPNHS updates its State Champions and 2012 Season Stat Leaders lists as teams complete their seasons.
April 13: No. 31 McDonogh (Owings Mills, Md.) def. No. 3 Calvert Hall (Baltimore), 7-6 OT According to VarsitySportsNetwork, McDonogh sophomore Brinton Valis scored the game-winning in overtime to give the Eagles the win over the Cardinals. The loss likely puts an end to the Cardinals hopes for a POWERADE FAB 50 National Championship. Calvert Hall’s only other loss was to No. 1 Conestoga (Berwyn, Pa.).
April 12: Sayville (N.Y.) def. No. 24 Shoreham-Wading River (Shoreham, N.Y.), 8-7 OT Sayville trailed 7-6 with 1:26 remaining when Zach Sirico scored to tie the game and send it into overtime. Andrew Gonzalez scored the game-winning goal 38 seconds into overtime to give Sayville its first win over a FAB 50 team this season. Goalie Pat Fleming made 10 saves in the game and has 39 saves on the season. The loss is sure to drop Shoreham in next week’s FAB 50 and should garner Sayville (5-1) some consideration.
April 11: No. 44 Landon (Bethesda, Md.) def. No. 20 Georgetown Prep (North Bethesda, Md.), 8-4
Hank Brown scored three goals and had two assists in the Bears win over the Little Hoyas. Landon’s win will likely prevent a fall in next week’s POWERADE FAB 50. The Bears fell 25 spots this week after losing four of six games, two of which were to unranked teams, including the program’s first loss to Bullis (Potomac, Md.) last week.
Girls FAB 50
April 13: Bishop Ireton (Alexandria, Va.) def. No. 12 Loyola Academy (Wilmette, Ill.), 12-10 Sophomore Kendall Cunningham scored three goals and three others scored two goals each to lead Bishop Ireton to a victory over Loyola Academy. The loss is the Ramblers second on its East Coast swing after losing to No. 8 Georgetown Visitation (Washington, D.C.) on Thursday. Loyola has three games in the next two days with two games at the St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes Spring Fling on Saturday, but the Ramblers will surely fall in next week’s FAB 50.
