By Mike Loveday

Georgetown Visitation (Washington, D.C.) sophomore Ana Hagerup has verbally committed to play women's lacrosse for the University of Virginia.

Hagerup was a starting midfielder on Georgetown Visitation’s 2012 ISL Championship team and helped the school to its first-ever victory over arch-rival St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Alexandria, Va.) on April 18 by scoring three goals and three assists, including the game-winning goal with eight seconds remaining in overtime.

Hagerup, who plays club lacrosse Capital Lacrosse 2014 Blue, was selected to represent Team DC Metro at the 2012 Under Armour All-American Underclassmen games and was selected to U.S. Lacrosse's WDNT 2012 DC Metro All-Star Team No. 1. Hagerup was also selected to the US Lacrosse All-Tournament Team at the U15 National Championships in Orlando, Fla. last summer.

Hagerup considered Princeton, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Boston College and UNC before committing to Virginia. The starting 6-foot sophomore forward on Georgetown Visitation’s 2012 ISL Championship basketball team (27-4) also considered playing basketball in college before deciding to pursue lacrosse.

The 2014 graduate gave her commitment to the Cavaliers on Sunday, May 27.
