Warrior Watch: Ferris wheeling toward 40
By By Mike Grimala
The third annual Warrior 40 competition is Aug. 13-15 in Commerce City, Colo. The three-day event hosts the nation's best high school boys lacrosse players.
Each week until the final roster is announced, ESPNHS will profile three to four athletes from our Warrior 40 Tracker.
Dean Ferris, Jr., Culver Academy (Culver, Ind.), attackman Ferris has already committed to Ohio State, so you know he's got the offensive skills to make an impact in any game he plays. And if he makes the roster for Warrior 40, expect him to bring his speed, quickness and a knack for finding his way to the front of the net.
Brier Davis, Jr., McCallie (Memphis, Tenn.), attackman
Davis was simply unstoppable for McCallie in 2012, posting 58 goals and 20 assists in 20 games. He scored four-plus goals in six separate games, including a six-goal performance in a 13-5 win over Brentwood. The Hofstra commit is relentless in the offensive end, so Warrior 40 defensemen won't be able to rest for even a split-second if Davis is in the game.
Chandler Kirby, Jr., Jericho (N.Y.), midfielder
Kirby stands just 5-foot-7, but underestimate his physicality at your own risk. He can bang with the best of them, and his two-way ability makes him an intriguing option for a spot on the Warrior 40 roster. Kirby committed to Cornell in December.
Jimmy Wyrick, Jr., St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (Alexandria, Va.), defenseman Wyrick is one of the nation's top defensemen, and he's also one of the most experienced. He's played on the St. Stephen's & St. Agnes varsity squad since his freshman year, so he's spent a lot of time going up against elite offensive players. He could definitely hold his own at Warrior 40, making the star attackmen work for every scoring opportunity.
