ESPN High School: What other school’s did you consider?
Jessica Volpe: “I also considered Rutgers, Hopkins, Villanova and Boston University.”
EHS: What made Stony Brook such an attractive choice?
JV: “I felt as if Stony Brook was a perfect fit academically and athletically for me. I believe that in the near future SBU will be a top 10 program.”
EHS: What surprised you about the recruiting process?
JV: “I did not think that the recruiting process was going to begin so early in my high school career. After September 1 things started becoming very overwhelming.”
EHS: What was the most important question you asked college coaches during the process?
JV: “The most important question I asked college coaches during the process would be "How does my lacrosse skills fit with your program?" I also questioned if the schools I was interested in had a Physical Therapy major.”
EHS: What one piece of advice would you give to other players who are just starting on the recruiting process?
JV: “If I had to give any advice to lacrosse players who are just starting the recruiting process I would say to definitely attend showcases where a large number of college coaches will be at, as well as once you narrow down to the schools you are interested in, attend those college camps.”
EHS: Is there anything about the recruiting process that you think could change that would have made it easier or less stressful for you?
JV: “The ability to talk to coaches prior to September 1 of junior year would help make the recruiting process less stressful and much easier for me.”
