Emily Barron, a senior from Cicero North (Cicero, N.Y.) is committed to play women’s lacrosse for Iona College. The North Syracuse, N.Y. native plays defense and is ranked as the No. 15 defender in the ESPNHS 100.
ESPNHS: What other school’s did you consider?
Emily Barron: UConn, Siena, Le Moyne.”
EHS: What made Iona so attractive?
EB: “It's one of those feelings where you just step on campus and you can see yourself walking around that place for the next four years. The lacrosse program is new and exciting and the coach (Michelle Mason) sealed the deal for me.
EHS: What surprised you about the recruiting process?
EB: “How fast paced it is! You really have to be on your game and figure out what you want in a school and what you don't want.”
EHS: What is the most important question you ask coaches?
EB: “I always asked how long they planned on staying around. It was really important to me to find a program with a dedicated coach who planned on staying and building a program. Luckily, I found that.”
EHS: What piece of advice would you give others just starting the process?
EB: “Email EVERYONE! Consider every option you have and never underestimate a school, because you never know what school you're going to fall in love with when you step on that campus.”
EHS: If you could change anything about the process what would it be?
EB: “Not really that much, maybe if anything the pace of the process. Picking a school is such a crucial decision, especially when you need to find a school with an academic and an athletic match.”
