Each week for the remainder of the 2012 season, ESPNHS Lacrosse will select a player from each of three regions still playing lacrosse as Player of the Week.

Athletes can earn Player of the Week honors just once during the 2012 regular season.
The following players are for the week of May 20 through 26.
Darcy Messina, Sr., St. Anthony’s (South Huntington, N.Y.), attack
Messina helped lead the No. 6 Friars to their fifth straight New York Catholic High School Athletic Association championship. The senior scored four goals and had one assist, in the 19-12 victory over Sacred Heart on May 21. Messina was one of three players with four goals (Anne Heagerty and Maggie Bill also scored four) and was part of a senior class that went 62-10 over the last four years.
Sally Holbert, Sr., Upper Arlington (Ohio), attack
Holbert helped lead Upper Arlington to the state lacrosse tournament for the fifth straight season last week. The senior scored five goals and added an assist as the Bears defeated Thomas Worthington (Columbus, Ohio) 18-5. Holbert helped Upper Arlington jump out to a 14-1 lead. The Bears (16-3) will play in the state semifinal on June 1 against Cleveland Heights.
Cali Castagnola, Jr., Carondelet (Calif.), attack
The junior had two of her best games of the season in two of the team’s biggest games of the year. On May 23 against California (San Ramon Valley, Calif.) in the North Coast Section I semifinal, Castagnola totaled six points on five goals and one assist. Two days later in the section final the junior totaled six points on four goals and two assists, helping lead the team to a 21-12 victory. The section title is the Cougars second-straight championship. Castagnola tallied 98 points on 66 goals and 32 assists this season.
