After four weeks of playoffs, there was no change at the top of the Maryland high school football state rankings. Other than a shuffling of positions, there were hardly any new teams in the final Top 25.
Good Counsel ended the season where it started, at No. 1, followed by MIAA champ Gilman, Class 4A champ Old Mill, MIAA runner-up Calvert Hall and 4A runner-up Quince Orchard.

It took a loss by Kent Island to open up a spot in this week's Top 25, and it went to North Point.
This SMAC program has been on the fringe of a Top 25 most of the season, but every time it got close, North Point took a step back with a loss -- first to Patuxent, then to Friendship Collegiate (D.C.). Now that North Point (8-2) is in, it faces quite a task -- a first-round Class 4A East playoff contest against No. 16 Arundel.

When the votes were tallied, DeMatha checked in at No. 14 in this week's ESPNHS Maryland High School Football Top 25.
That got me thinking: When was the last time DeMatha was outside the Top 10? When was the last time the Stags had been ranked so low? The answers may surprise you.

When 24 of the Top 25 teams either win, lose to another state-ranked team or simply do not play, it leaves very little room for change in the state rankings.
Such was the case this week in Maryland.
