Imagine, a state Top 25 without River Hill or Urbana.
Well, it happened this week for the first time since 2003 as River Hill and defending state champ Urbana fell from the Maryland State Poll following losses last week. Both teams are among the other teams receiving votes, but this week ends a run of 93 straight weeks with one or the other (usually both) ranked among the Top 25.
There was no change at the top with No. 1 Good Counsel, No. 2 Gilman, No. 3 Calvert Hall, No. 4 Quince Orchard and No. 5 Eleanor Roosevelt all winning. However, four team teams join the rankings: Seneca Valley at No. 18, Walkersville at No. 21, Patuxent at No. 22 and Catonsville at No. 23.
For Seneca Valley, it's a return to the state's elite, a position it held through most of the 1990s and into the 2000s. Walkersville has not been in the Top 25 since the 1990s and Catonsville is making its first-ever appearance.
