In a week where six ranked teams lost, the net result was only one new team in this week's Maryland State Poll Top 25.

Five of the losses occured among state-ranked teams that left little shake-up among the Top 15. The only team falling from the rankings this week was Middletown, a loser to Urbana. Urbana, which pushed its record to 3-3, remains alive for a playoff spot. The Hawks' three losses are one-point setbacks to No. 15 Walkersville, No. 21 Thomas Johnson and Westlake, which is second among the "others receiving votes."

The marquee contest last weekend was Gilman's 28-21 come-from-behind win over Calvert Hall with the state's No. 2 ranking on the line. The Cardinals slipped from No. 3 to 4 following the defeat.

Entering this week is Paint Branch at No. 23. The team's lone loss this season is to current No. 3 Quince Orchard. Interestingly, given the regional alignment, Paint Branch could be on track to meet either No. 13 Poly or No. 18 Catonsville in the Class 4A North regional playoffs.
