Good Counsel holds steady at No. 1

10/31/2011

When 24 of the Top 25 teams either win, lose to another state-ranked team or simply do not play, it leaves very little room for change in the state rankings.

Such was the case this week in Maryland.

The only newcomer to this week's Top 25 is Kent Island, which bounced previous No. 19 Wicomico, 17-14, on a last-minute field goal in a battle of undefeated teams.

Good Counsel remains a unanimous No. 1, collecting all 12 first-place votes for 300 total points. Gilman, Quince Orchard, Calvert Hall and Eleanor Roosevelt fills out the top five.

The only Top 10 movement was Atholton and DeMatha swapping spots with Atholton up to No. 9 and DeMatha down to No. 10.

The other big match-up last week featured Poly and Dunbar, a pair of teams that were undefeated on the field. Poly edged out an 18-14 victory to move up to No. 11 this week while Poly settled in at No. 15.

Others Receiving Votes:
