A year after pulling off one of the greatest wins in history for Maryland high school football, No. 1 Good Counsel did it again -- this time topping national power Manatee (Bradenton, Fla.), 24-17, in overtime. Now, the Falcons hope the similarities with 2010 end right there.

Last year, after beating St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio) on national TV, Good Counsel returned to Maryland and was promptly thumped by Gilman, ending any dreams of a high national ranking and state No. 1 finish.

Good Counsel, which claimed 11 of 12 first-place votes and hold the No. 1 ranking in the Maryland High School Football State Poll this week, takes on second-ranked Gilman to highlight this week's state schedule. No. 3 Calvert Hall takes on No. 4 DeMatha in another marquee match-up.

COMPLETE MARYLAND STATE POLL

Only three new teams join this week's Top 25, and two of them received votes in the preseason rankings and opened the year with wins over state-ranked teams. The highest debut is at No. 16 by Westlake, which beat Urbana. Gwynn Park, which beat Potomac, and Paint Branch join the Top 25 in the last two spots.
