Chesson makes a statement in Crab Bowl
By Sheldon Shealer
Rob Chesson rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown as the D.C. All-Stars defeated the Baltimore All-Stars 14-6 in the fourth annual Maryland Crab Bowl at Bowie State University.
BOWIE, Md. -- It might be impossible to top the image of Rob Chesson lunging into the end zone with a game-winning, two-point conversion in overtime to give Old Mill (Millersville, Md.) a Class 4A state title on the game's final play on Dec. 2.
However, Chesson gave it a run Saturday.
The lightly recruited 5-foot-10, 175-pound senior rushed for 135 yards -- 72 on the team's first drive -- with a touchdown on 22 carries to lead the D.C. All-Stars to a 14-6 victory over the Baltimore All-Stars in the fourth annual Maryland Crab Bowl powered by Under Armour, played at Bowie State University.
"There was some intensity," Chesson said. "A lot of people wanted to know what I could do with the best talent around so I had to come out an perform to the best of my ability and I did that today and I'm proud of myself."
Chesson capped D.C.'s first drive with runs of 26, 22 and 15 yards on the last three plays as the team took a 7-0 lead. D.C. made it 14-0 after Tavon Young of Potomac (Oxon Hill, Md.) returned a fumble 33 yards in the second quarter. Baltimore's lone touchdown came when Calvert Hall (Towson, Md.) teammates Thomas Stuart and receiver Trevor Williams connected on a 14-yard score in the fourth quarter.
Chesson guided Old Mill to a 14-0 showing and scored a state-record 49 touchdowns.
