Everett's non-league schedule is as challenging as any in the state, and Week 2 saw the Crimson Tide welcome Western Mass contender Springfield Central. Though Central had been upset by Putnam in Week 1, the matchup was still anticipated as a test for Everett. But senior QB Jonathan DiBiaso fired three touchdown passes and the Tide rolled, 42-13. So much for tests.
No. 3 BC High is also playing a tough early-season schedule, and it came back to bite the Eagles on Saturday, as they traveled to New Jersey and were beaten by DePaul, 49-35. The result didn't cause BC High to drop in the POWERADE state rankings, as it was an out-of-state contest, but it did expose some problems with the Eagles' pass defense.
No. 7 Auburn ran its state-best winning streak to 39 games with a 14-13 win over Holliston.
