Week 8 football: Westford Academy at Lincoln-Sudbury
By By Mike Grimala
The Game: Westford Academy (4-3) at No. 6 Lincoln-Sudbury (7-0)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The Players: Westford Academy — Senior Alex Eaton has committed to Lehigh for lacrosse, but right now he's serving as the Grey Ghosts' unstoppable running back. He's rushed for 1,014 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season, and he's done it against some good defenses. Westford Academy put up 30-plus points on No. 4 Chelmsford earlier in the season.
Lincoln-Sudbury — The running back duo of senior Dan Cellucci and junior Brian Carroll has been money for L-S this season, making big plays in the ground game, through the air and on special teams. Carroll has also returned a couple INTs for scores this season, so they can hurt an opponent at any time.
The Stakes: Lincoln-Sudbury hasn't exactly played a grueling schedule to this point in the season, as their opponents' combined winning percentage is well under .500. A win over a quality Westford Academy team would legitimize the Warriors as a Top 10 team.
The Prediction: The Grey Ghosts have proven over and over again this season that they can move the ball and create big plays in the running game. I don't think the Lincoln-Sudbury defense can hold up for four quarters. They'll get worn down in the second half and Westford Academy will pull away for the upset.
