It's been an eventful week for Massachusetts basketball teams, especially for St. John's Prep. The Eagles entered the week undefeated and ranked No. 3 in the state, but a loss at the hands of Catholic Conference rival BC High dropped SJP to 5-1 on the season.

Now St. John's Prep has to get back on track, starting with a home game against Malden Catholic tonight at 7 p.m. In addition to that contest, here's a sampling of other events to keep an eye on this weekend.

WEEKEND PREVIEW

Basketball

Northfield-Mt. Hermon (6-0) vs. South Kent School (2-0)
at South Kent, Conn.
Saturday, 6 p.m.
Northfield-Mt. Hermon is the No. 1 team in Massachusetts, but the Hoggers should receive quite a game from the South Kent School, which has a roster dotted with Division I prospects. Senior guard Ricardo Ledo is probably South Kent's top player — he's No. 22 in the ESPNU 100 and has signed with Providence.

St. John's Prep (5-1) vs. Malden Catholic (3-3)
at St. John's Prep
Friday, 7 p.m.
St. John's Prep is looking to steady itself after its first loss of the season, but Malden Catholic is no pushover. The Lancers have won their last two games, taking down Waltham and Xaverian. It will be important for SJP to focus on the game at hand, and not look forward to next week's showdowns with Catholic Memorial and Central Catholic.

Holy Name (8-0) vs. St. Peter-Marian (5-1)
at Holy Name
Friday, 7 p.m.
Riding high at 8-0, Holy Name is currently the highest ranked team in Central Mass (No. 7 in the POWERADE state rankings). But this is a blood feud, and St. Peter-Marian is capable of winning this game. SPM has only lost once so far, to Central Catholic. If I could only see one game this weekend, this would be the one.

Ice Hockey

Malden Catholic (4-1-1) vs. BC High (5-0-0)
at Malden Catholic
Saturday, 5:30 p.m.
Malden Catholic is No. 1 in the ESPN Boston poll, and BC High is right behind at No. 3. These two teams will meet again in a couple weeks, and possible again later down the road. If Malden Catholic gets solid goaltending, I expect the Lancers to hold serve and win this one at home.

Catholic Memorial (3-1-0) vs. Hingham (5-2-0)
at Hingham
Saturday, 6 p.m.
Another matchup of elite teams, as ESPN Boston has CM at No. 4 and Hingham at No. 7.
