(Ranks based on ESPNHS State Rankings)

Northville (8-1) vs. No. 2 Detroit Catholic Central (8-1)

Detroit Catholic Central has been the state's No. 2 team almost all year long. Only a late loss to St. Mary's Prep briefly dropped the Shamrocks to fourth; but a win against the same team one week later, coupled with a loss to other highly ranked teams, pushed the team back up to the second spot. But the Shamrocks would be making a mistake to underestimate Northville, a team that has suffered just one loss (to Plymouth) by four points and has outscored its opposition by a 401-185 margin. PREDICTION: Detroit Catholic Central 31, Northville 24

Brother Rice (5-4) vs. North Farmington (7-2)

Is this the best 5-4 football team of all time? The Warriors lost by one point to De La Salle, by one point to St. Mary's Prep, by two points to Detroit Catholic Central and by seven to a good team from Ohio. But the moral of the story is, Brother Rice needs to find out a way to beat good teams. The team will face a very good North Farmington team, and the return to glory starts here in the first round of the playoffs. North Farmington, though, is undefeated since starting the year 0-2; they'll be tough to top. PREDICTION: Brother Rice 20, North Farmington 16

Croswell-Lexington (8-1) vs. No. 9 Marine City (9-0)

There's little doubt that Marine City has been one of the great stories in the state this fall; they've won every game, crept into our top 10 at the end of the year and boast one of the state's best players — senior RB Anthony Scarcelli. But for as good as the Mariners have been, they haven't faced a ton of spectacular teams this year. That's what makes Croswell-Lexington a good early test. The Pioneers were unbeaten right up until a late loss to Mason, 32-28. But the team plays hard-nosed football and knows how to win close games — perfect for a playoff game. PREDICTION: Marine City 24, Croswell-Lexington 20

Previous Record: 15-10
