Michigan's Preps Pick'em: Week 6

By By Christopher Parish

Each week we'll take three intriguing matchups and put our knowledge to the test with some predictions. If you think your team's game is one of the best on the schedule, let us know in the comments or on Twitter @CParishESPNHS and we'll put it up for debate.

(Ranks based on ESPNHS State Rankings)

Brother Rice (4-1) at O.L. St. Mary's (4-1)

At one time or another, both of these teams had earned spots in our weekly rankings. But Brother Rice lost late to Warren De La Salle while St. Mary's fell in its first of two out-of-state contests (both in Ohio). Both teams have great rosters top to bottom and experienced coaches who know how to win these types of games. They'll be well coached, well disciplined, and this game will be as good as any you'll find on the national slate of games this weekend. But in the end, only one team can win. PREDICTION: Brother Rice 17, St. Mary's 14

Lowell (4-1) vs. East Grand Rapids (4-1)

East Grand Rapids has been playing like a team scorned in the three games since its loss to Holland. Since then, the Pioneers have scored 49, 61 and 56 points in three victories. Lowell, meanwhile, looked like one of the state's best teams until running into a hot Grand Rapids Christian squad. Now senior QB Gabe Dean and company want to get back on track, but will the Red Arrows have the defense to hold off the Pioneers? PREDICTION: East Grand Rapids 37, Lowell 24

Almont (5-0) vs. Croswell-Lexington (5-0)

Both of these teams have been utterly dominant over the first five weeks of the season. Almont hadn't allowed more than eight points in a game over the first four weeks but finally surrendered two scores in a 55-14 win last week over Algonac. Croswell-Lexington has outscored opponents, 152-28, so far this season. Look for the running games in this one — Almont's Evan Shelton and C-L's Tyler Sergent will headline this matchup. PREDICTION: Almont 24, Croswell-Lexington 22

Previous Record: 9-4
