Each week, we’ll take an in-depth look at our All-State preseason football team and let you know how a few of those athletes are faring as the season progresses. We'll highlight a blue-chipper (a first-team player), an OTP (other top player) and an under-the-radar pick (someone who didn't make the squad but is making a case to be on the team).
This week, a lineman puts on a sack clinic, a quarterback keeps his team over .500 and another QB helps his team remain unbeaten this season.
Blue Chip: Mario Ojemudia, Harrison, DL
Harrison's remained unbeaten this season and has moved up to No. 9 in the POWERADE FAB 50, and Ojemudia's defense is a big reason why. On Friday he had one of his best high school games, recording nine tackles and three sacks, as the Hawks beat reigning Division 1 champ Lake Orion, 28-7, handing the team just their second loss this season. Ojemudia is a Michigan recruit.
OTP: Tony Annesse, Rochester Adams, QB
Adams needed a win to stay above .500 this season, and the team's quarterback came through in the clutch. The senior QB ran for 190 yards and three touchdowns, and he also threw for a score and cashed in on a two-point conversion, helping Adams topple Troy by a 35-19 margin. With the win, Adams is one victory away from a playoff spot.
Under the Radar: Gabe Sanders, Michigan Collegiate, QB
Who would have guessed at the beginning of the season that Michigan Collegiate would be a perfect 8-0 to this point in the season? The Cougars have been firing on all cylinders and their quarterback, senior Gabe Sanders, is a big reason why. Against Chandler Park on Friday, Sanders completed five passes on eight attempts and four of them were for touchdowns. He also had 102 yards and a rushing touchdown in his team's 40-20 win.
