Minnesota Preps Pick'em: Week 5

Each week we'll take three intriguing matchups and put our knowledge to the test with some predictions. If you think your team's game is one of the best on the schedule, let us know in the comments or on Twitter @CParishESPNHS and we'll put it up for debate.

(Ranks are based on ESPNHS state rankings)

No. 4 Minnetonka (4-0) at No. 2 Wayzata (4-0)

In what is easily the best game of the weekend, the No. 4-ranked Skippers have a chance to prove they truly belong among the state's elite by knocking off reigning state champ Wayzata. The Trojans weren't expected to be quite as good as they've been yet again this season, but with wins over Prior Lake, Eagan and Anoka (not to mention Carmel in Illinois), they've once again vaulted up near the top of the standings. Winning this week may solidify a spot in the rankings for the rest of the season. PREDICTION: Minnetonka 27, Wayzata 20

No. 7 Lakeville South (4-0) vs. Rosemount (3-1)

Talk about a tough draw for Rosemount. After facing a tough Lakeville North team (and falling), Rosemount makes the trip to face the other Lakeville power. They'll need a win to get back on track, but it won't be easy. South, led by senior QB Mitch Leidner (724 yards, 10 TDs), is firing on all cylinders right now. The Cougars have allowed 13 combined points in their last two games. The defense will be critical in this one. PREDICTION: Lakeville South 27, Rosemount 17

Esko (3-1) vs. Holy Family Catholic (4-0)

Holy Family has had a tremendous start to its season, and defense has led the way. The Fire have given up only 44 points this season, and they're getting contributions from everyone. The secondary has proven especially stout, led by senior Tommy Hanson and junior Charlie Marschall. But they can't overlook a very strong Esko squad. Senior QB Max Reinertsen has the skills to shred defenses (526 rushing yards and eight scores this season). PREDICTION: Holy Family 30, Esko 17

Previous Record: 7-4
