The Stillwater boys' cross country team rode a trio of impressive individual performances to finish 10th out of 22 teams at the Nike Cross Nationals meet in Portland, Ore., on Saturday.
The Ponies, racing as a "club" rather than a high school team, were led by junior Wayde Hall. He finished the 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) course in 16:02, which was good enough for 51st place but 22nd in team scoring. He was followed closely by senior Thomas Linner, who was 53rd (24th in team scoring) in 16:04. Junior Eric Colvin took 89th (49th in team scoring) in 16:24.
Taylor Aarness, Sean Bjork, Matthew Chu and Ethan Anderson rounded out the scoring. The team scored 296 points, edging Santa Clarita by two points for a top 10 result. Lincroft XC Club (Christian Brothers High School, Lincroft, N.J.) won the team title with 91 points. Futsum Zeinasellessie, a senior at North Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) won the meet in 15:03.
