Dyestat's Marc Bloom put together an impressive rundown of the cross country outlook in all 50 states, and it looks like it's going to be an impressive year in Minnesota. Here's their breakdown of the state's XC scene:
"Reigning champion or former champion? Will state 2A and Heartland defender Wayzata, counting on developing young talent to bolster the return of top man Josh Thorson (the team loses its next 5 scorers), be able to hold off a revitalized Stillwater team, which still holds dear its national #1 ranking from 1997? Stillwater won the state track title last spring and has senior Tom Linner pacing the team, whose top 5 have run the 3200 in 9:27, 9:34, 9:34, 9:36 and 9:54.
Rosemount and Burnsville, 3-4 at state, are other contenders. In addition to Thorson, a 4:22/9:18 track runner, top individuals include 2A runner-up Cole O’Brien (Burnsville), who placed 6th in the Heartland, just missing an NXN berth."
