Minnesota Week 2 Rankings: Top teams hold firm

By By Christopher Parish

Two of the top 10 teams from last week's rankings met in a big early-season showdown, as Hopkins and Blaine squared off. But the then No. 4-seeded Royals couldn't handle Blaine (then No. 10) and have thus slipped out of the rankings, while Blaine moves up to occupy the No. 5 spot this week following the impressive victory. Other teams held serve this week, including important wins for Cretin-Derham Hall and Minnetonka. And South St. Paul creeps into the rankings to occupy the spot vacated by Hopkins' departure.

1. Eden Prairie —defeated Kennedy, 35-0 (last week: No. 1)
2. Wayzata (Plymouth) — defeated Eagan, 28-7 (last week: No. 2)
3. Cretin-Derham Hall (St. Paul) — defeated Mounds View, 29-7 (last week: No. 3)
