Is this the end for Apple Valley soccer?
By By Christopher Parish
Apple Valley's soccer team has been very good. So good, in fact, that the team is second in the nation in consecutive wins with a streak dating back to 2009.
But every single one of the Eagles' starters from last year have graduated. So did dynamic young star Hudson Fasching, who's now pursuing what will undoubtedly be a very successful hockey career — he made the U.S. Under-17 Team. Don't mistake this for Apple Valley not fielding a competitive squad. But conventional wisdom says the win streak — and the chance to defend the Class 2A state title — are in jeopardy.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribunehas a great story on what's next for the storied program.
Apple Valley is by no means done. The Eagles won their first game of the year, pushing the streak to 48, and play again this evening. But the storyline will be one to watch as the season progresses. (And let's hope this isn't the start of a ESPNHS blog jinx.)
