Apple Valley soccer streak ends at 48
By By Christopher Parish
Yesterday we profiled the Apple Valley soccer team while simultaneously wondering when the Eagles' impressive streak of 48 games would end and hoping we weren't the jinx for talking about the streak.
It looks like we've begun the jinx of the ESPNHS blog. The Eagles fell to Holy Family, 2-1, ending a streak dating back to 2009.
There was a certain inevitability to the streak ending this season, and to have continued it would have been an impressive feat indeed. All of Apple Valley's seniors from last season graduated, leaving the legacy to a bunch of talented but untested players. Ultimately, Apple Valley probably cared a little less about the streak than we as fans did. The team's goal is defending its state championship, and this loss will help this young group learn and grow.
We'll keep an eye on Apple Valley's progress in the next few weeks and months, but it's probably safe to say the historically dominant team is far from done making headlines.
