For the last three years, it's been the first team to get to 42 wins. And with both teams riding lengthy win streaks and apparently peaking at the right time, this year should be no different between rivals Blue Springs and No. 10 Blue Springs South.
Blue Springs South (6-1) has been quite impressive this year, riding the productive running of Steve Sullivan (653 yards, 10 TDs) to a win against defending Class 5 champ Lee's Summit West and playing close with defending Class 6 champ Rockhurst.
This rushing ability will be key against Blue Springs (5-2). In consecutive losses to open the season, the Wildcats' rush defense was decimated, giving up 400 yards to Rockhurst's Jordan Walker and 417 total yards to Staley. Granted, those two teams aren't pushovers, but neither is Blue Springs South.
With that said, the Wildcats have hit their stride of late, putting up 46.4 points per game behind the passing of Kyle Brown (1,099 yards, 16 touchdowns) and an efficient run-by-committee approach. But again, the onus lies on the defense in this contest.
My pick: Blue Springs South 42, Blue Springs 31
