With the basketball season done, now it's time to turn our attention the baseball campaign. And most eyes are on the St. Charles area, where Francis Howell and Francis Howell Central have vaulted to the top two spots after a week or so of play.
Francis Howell has been dominant at the plate during its 4-0 start while Francis Howell Central, the defending Class 4 champs, has surprised some with a 6-0 start despite returning just two players to this year's team.
Here are this week's rankings (preseason rankings in parentheses):
1. Francis Howell (St. Charles) 4-0 (NR)
Spartans have put up at least nine runs in their three of their four wins. Next up: the loaded Midwest Classic featuring ranked foes Francis Howell and Lee's Summit West.
2. Francis Howell Central (St. Charles) 6-0 (NR)
Despite returning just two players, the defending Class 4 champs are off to a great start, winning three one-run victories. Junior third baseman Mitch Larkin (.647, six RBIs) and senior outfielder Austin Schneider (.473, six RBIs) have been big at the plate for the Vikings, who have won 16 straight dating back to last year.
3. SLUH 3-1 (1)
