Top teams breeze to victory, hold strong in Week 5 NY football rankings

St. Anthony's looked the part of No. 1, easily beating Archbishop Stepinac, 55-29. Fort Hamilton won its 37th straight regular season contest, this time beating Jefferson by a count of 44-36. Plus, Tottenville and Iona Prep bounced back from their first losses of the year with wins.

In other words, it was pretty much business as usual for New York's top football teams this past weekend. Looming on the schedule, though, is a matchup between No. 1 St. Anthony's and No. 9 Xaverian that could shake up the rankings, so stay tuned.

Here are this week's rankings (last week's rankings in parentheses):

1. St. Anthony's (Melville) 4-0 (1)
First-year starter Pete Carew had his best game of the year, completing 10 of his 11 throws for 141 yards to go with two total touchdowns in a 55-29 win against Archbishop Stepinac. Next up: Xaverian.

2. Aquinas Institute (Rochester) 6-0 (2)
Little Irish easily beat Canisius, 50-7, this past week. Next up: Cathedral Prep (Pa.).

3. Orchard Park 6-0 (3)
Okoya Anderson rushed for 136 yards and two scores in a 37-14 win against Lancaster. Next up: Riverside.
