Top 10 teams St. Anthony's and Xaverian battle in Week 5 NY football

By By Brandon Parker

Thanks to Hurricane Irene cancelling its opener, No. 1 St. Anthony's had to jump into its CHSFL schedule headfirst. The Friars, of course, have handled it — along with injuries to some of their top players — well.

Next on the slate is No. 9 Xaverian (4-1), which has had success but been inconsistent at times. Junior quarterback Zach Kearney has played well of late and running back Laray Smith racked up three more touchdowns in a 37-16 win against Holy Trinity.

The Clippers are surging, but it might not be enough against the Friars (4-0). First-year starting QB Pete Carew had his best game of the season last week (three touchdowns) and standout players Brian Sherlock and Dariyan Riley are expected back from injuries this week, giving the state's top team more firepower.
My pick: St. Anthony's 35, Xaverian 21
