It'd been 24 years since the Harding football had defeated rival West Charlotte — although with a streak like that, the word "rivalry" almost seemed out of place. But that all changed last Friday, when the Rams beat the Lions, 37-23. Sophomore tailback Shaun Wilson led the victorious effort, piling up 148 yards and four touchdowns on just nine carries.

The win, which pushed the Rams to 2-1 on the season, could mark an even greater turnaround. Since reaching the 1987 state title game, Harding had fallen on hard times, going 55-185 and producing just two winning seasons in the last 20 years.

Now, with first-year coach and former Carolina Panther Deveron Harper at the helm, the Rams appear headed in the right direction as Friday's home contest against South Meck looms.
