High Point Christian rises into Week 3 NC hoops rankings

After games ending Dec. 26

Teams like Olympic and West Charlotte hold it down well for public schools, but the private school sector has been just as impressive at the outset of the North Carolina prep hoops season.

Take High Point Christian, for instance. The Cougars debuted in this week's rankings at No. 4 after handing Christ School its first loss and downing a talented Word of God squad. Other private schools in the rankings include Northside Christian, Christ School, Charlotte Christian and Winston-Salem Prep.

With that said, Olympic and West Charlotte remain the state's top dogs. Olympic debuted in the POWERADE FAB 50 this week and the Lions shook off a shaky start to the year by easily beating Georgia power Columbia and winning the Classic II bracket of the Chick-Fil-A Classic in South Carolina.

Here are this week's rankings (last week's rankings in parentheses):

1. Olympic 10-0 (1)

Trojans debuted at No. 43 in the POWERADE FAB 50 after breezing to the championship at the Aiken County Challenge in South Carolina.

2. West Charlotte 10-3 (7)

Lions move back up the rankings after blowing out Georgia power Columbia and winning the Classic II bracket of the Chick-Fil-A Classic in South Carolina.

3. Northside Christian 8-0 (3)

Knights continued their winning ways with victories against Columbia and Covenant Classical.
