It's almost time. On Saturday evening St. Edward will battle the nation's No. 1 team Don Bosco Prep at Fordham University in New York. The Eagles head into the matchup undefeated after dispatching Ursuline this past weekend, and they have legit national-title aspirations if they can pull off the upset.
Elsewhere in Ohio, No. 6 Toledo Whitmer has impressed our voters so much that the Panthers became the sixth Ohio squad ranked in the Midwest Region. GlenOak is new to the state rankings and dropped Middletown out of the top 10. GlenOak has knocked off perennial powers Austintown-Fitch and McKinley the last two weeks. Also, look out for fast-charging St. Ignatius (5-1), a bubble team that defeated Glenville Friday, to put some pressure on the teams at the back end of the Top 10 next week.
Here's how the top three teams fared last week:
1. St. Edward — defeated Ursuline, 20-7 (last week No. 1)
2. Moeller — defeated La Salle, 35-13 (last week No. 2)
3. St. Xavier — defeated Elder, 21-6 (last week No. 3)
